On conscientious hashtagging, and what makes an outfit an outfit

Since finishing my exams, I've had some time to really reflect on life, and start asking the big questions. You know, like 'why are we here?', 'what is beauty?', and, perhaps most importantly, 'what the hell did people do before social media?'. I mean, how on earth did they procrastinate? People must have actually got stuff done instead of sharing cat videos with facebook friends and trawling through inane hashtags on twitter. Man, I know. Shit's gotten deep recently.

ER. MAH. GAH. British Vague's "Fashion and Femininity...and Balls?" featured on Independent Fashion Bloggers' weekly roundup!

Only downside is they got rid of the 'and balls' bit.

But while we reflect on that loss, check out these other groovy clever stylish people

Life of Style

When you are an avid fashion blog reader, it's easy to get lost in the trappings of "you look great!" and "nice dress!" you know, the internet version of air kisses. But what lies beneath? Well, there is quite a bit, it's not all on the surface! this week, we talk about love, life, style and of course, how to get your fashion on.

Let me take you on a journey through time and babes, also known as The History of the Breton Top. Firstly time: the Breton top as we know it today came into being following the 1858 Act of France, which introduced the navy and white striped knitted shirt as the uniform for all French navy seamen in Brittany. Fact. Secondly babes, because Breton been worn by many a babe over the years. Coco Chanel? Check. Jean Seberg? Check. Audrey Hepburn? Check. Brigitte Bardot? Check. And, most recently, we've seen the striped wonder repeatedly gracing the frames of It Girls Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo. Check.

I walk the line...

Unique. Individual. Distinctive. These are words that I'm pretty sure every fashion-enthusiast strives towards.

This looks bonkers. I can't pull this off. I look like I have 14 cats. These are words that I'm pretty sure every fashion-enthusiast has felt at least every once in a while. Or I do anyway.

An ode to Emma Watson and tracksuits.

Sweatshirt: ASOS, Trousers: Zara, Clutch: Zara, Shoes: New Look, Cuff: River Island

Emma Watson has been so on point lately. She never puts a single perfectly-clad-in-Jimmy-Choo foot wrong. I mean, every outfit is like BAM - another one knocked out the ball park! For Pete's sake, the girl has a wardrobe so good she makes me talk in sports metaphors.

Just to clarify for those less-warped-than-I individuals who don't watch unhealthy amounts of TV crime drama, the title's funny/mildly amusing coz it sounds like 'prime suspect', and I'm wearing primary colours. Hilarious. And also to clarify, yes that is me in the photos wearing ABSOLUTELY NO BLACK - I know, it's an Easter miracle!

When I tell people that I've recently started a  fashion blog, there seem to be a few stock reactions. One of which is the super supportive, super encouraging , super friend response of 'That's great!' - and to all y'all who did that, I send you virtual cuddles coz you da best. Another standard reaction making itself apparent however, is the quizzical head tilt, the 'don't you think that's a bit clichéd?' side look. The look that comes before the question, 'Isn't that a bit girly..?'. What I should really do to these people is get all Catherine Tate up in their grills and say, 'Am I bovvered?', but the honest answer to that question would be YES, Catherine - I kinda am. And it's got me wondering why. What is there to be bovvered about? I am a girl, so what's my beef with my blog being deemed girly or overtly feminine? I've been thinking about it, and I believe my issue here is that I don't see fashion (and therefore a blog about fashion) as feminine - or at least not in the sense implied through that pointed tilt-of-head.

It's Spring! Wonderful Spring. I've yearned for you for months. Time to get out the straw hat, Breton top, and go for a picnic... Right? Well, not really. Because this, as I have come to realise over the past month, is what can be diagnosed as The Spring Fantasy. The Spring Fantasy is a phenomena which afflicts a large proportion of the British population. Symptoms include waking up from the 1st March onward expecting to be greeted with sunshine and birdsong, and deeming anything over 15 degrees 'ice cream weather'. Today has actually been rather beautiful (say whaaat?!), but on the whole, the actuality of Spring is a much damper and chillier affair. So what are we to do on those days where Reality doesn't live up to the Fantasy? And more importantly, what are we to wear if not straw hats and Breton tops?
